Our lessons involve learning some Tikanga (customs), himene/waiata (Hymns/songs), karakia (prayer) as well as saying a mihi (greeting), learning whakapapa (family tree) and learning to share your pepeha.
We also have a traditional hangi planned to show and teach the different processes involved (Hangi event has come and gone, check out the slideshow and images in the related links).
We also have planned for later in the year (term 4) a visit to one of our kaiako marae at Tauranga Moana to be a part of an official powhiri. (Marae visit event has come and gone, check out the slideshow and videos in the related links, Marae Visit).
Our goal is to help people gain a love for the language by enabling them to learn correct pronunciation, direction of speech, greetings how to say a mihi and share thier pepeha.
We do not charge for the classes held at the Morrinsville Baptist Church, but we do invite people to share in the cost be giving a Koha (offering/donation).
