COMMUNITY LINK WORKER JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Part time paid position

 

General Description

The Morrinsville Ezekiel Trust in partnership with Morrinsville Baptist Church are committed to providing quality services and programmes for the benefit and wellbeing of our local community. The Link Worker will work actively alongside existing services and their clients to support them making life style choices for themselves to improve their quality of life.   The Link Worker will liaise with the current services over programmes and initiatives needed, encourage client participation in the activities and facilitate the running of these. The Link Worker may visit clients in their homes to provide guidance and support to individuals and / or families / whanau as appropriate.

 

Key Relationships

The position requires the Link Worker to liaise with personnel from:

  • Ezekiel Trust Budget Service
  • Ezekiel Trust Kindergarten
  • Mainly Music
  • The Link Worker will also network as required with personnel from various organisations such as:
  • Work and Income NZ (WINZ)
  • Local schools
  • Plunket
  • Churches
  • Morrinsville Community House
  • Morrinsville Training Centre

Primary Purpose of Role

To build holistic relationships with contacts from our existing services and within the local community, in order to link such people with appropriate support and resources to improve their well being and empower them to make wise lifestyle choices.

 

Accountability

The Link Worker will be employed by the Ezekiel Trust and will be under the supervision of the Staff Team Leader.

 

Major Areas of Responsibility

  1. In cooperation with the existing services establish ongoing relationships with identified clients / contacts for the purpose of supporting them.
  2. Be available for self referrals directly from the community.
  3. Identify issues and / or needs and initiate community based programmes / events / activities / groups to address the identified needs / issues.
  4. Build, train and monitor a volunteer base to facilitate the implementation of the programmes. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of these initiatives.
  5. Liaise with key community group(s) / agencies for the ongoing welfare and benefit of the client; working to complement the work of other professional organisations and refer clients to specialist help where appropriate.
  6. Keep the Ezekiel Trust and the church regularly informed of developments and progress.
  7. In consultation with key personnel have input into strategic planning and implementation of such plans as they relate to the community work.
  8. Keep records of referrals, activities and statistical data for reports and evaluations including ongoing assessment of client’s progress.
  9. Ensure all reporting and accountability requirements of funding agencies are met.

 

Specific Responsibilities

  1. To meet with the Staff Team Leader, initially on a weekly basis, with the frequency to be renegotiated longer term.
  2. To meet initially weekly (30 min each) with Budget Co-ordinator, Community Pastor, Kindergarten Supervisor and Mainly Music Leader with frequency to be reviewed longer term.
  3. To attend weekly staff meetings.
  4. To meet monthly with assigned managerial support to ensure records and documentation are to the required standard.
  5. To submit a report for members meetings including an AGM report and other reports (or reporting) as and when required.
  6. To work within the financial guidelines and protocols as set out by the Admin Committee.
  7. To attend supervision / mentor as agreed.
  8. To maintain a programme of professional development through reading and attending relevant courses and training events.
  9. To observe professional conduct in accordance with policies and the staff values.

 

Scope / Authority

  • Budget:              As approved by the Board.
  • Voluntary Staff:  Recruitment of appropriate voluntary team members to implement the programmes in consultation with key personnel.
  • Paid Staff:          Recruit as approved by the Board.
